Save the Date: Fun takes flight in Ridgefield; Pumpkin Lane is open

There’s so much to take in at this weekend’s BirdFest and Bluegrass. The popular Audubon Live Bird Show will be at 1 p.m. today at View Ridge Middle School, 510 Pioneer St., Ridgefield. The birds will also be shown at the Birders’ Marketplace from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday in downtown Ridgefield, along with other exhibits, gifts and art, and a family activities tent. Bluegrass jamming can be heard today near the Old Liberty Theater, 115 N. Main Ave., with a concert at 7 p.m. featuring the Brian Oberlin Bluegrass Quartet, followed by Jeff Scroggins and Colorado. The concert is $10. A documentary screening of “Promised Land” will also take place at the theater at 1 p.m. Sunday, hosted by the Friends of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge and the Chinook Indian Nation. There’s a $5 to $10 suggested donation. And a traditional salmon bake will round out the activities at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cathlapotle Plankhouse, with food served until it’s gone. http://ridgefieldfriends.org

This weekend marks the opening of Pumpkin Lane at Pomeroy Farm, 20902 N.E. Lucia Falls Road, Yacolt, where visitors can take a hayride down a road filled with 100 “pumpkin people” while on the way to the pumpkin patch. Say hello to the farm animals, test out the pumpkin flume and hay bale maze, or explore the log house and Farm Cafe. The Slate: Standup Comedy Showcase will bring local comedians to the stage, hosted by Tristian Spillman. This month’s show at 8 p.m. Oct. 6 will feature headliner Dwight Slade, who has performed on the “Tonight Show,” Edinburgh Fridge Festival and was winner of this year’s Boston Comedy Festival. Love Street Playhouse presents the ghostly comedy “Blithe Spirit,” about a husband stuck between two wives. When Charles invites the eccentric medium Madam Arcati into his home, he intends to expose the Madam as a fraud for his new book. But Madam Arcati mistakenly summons Charles’ first wife back from the beyond. The production runs Oct. 7 through Oct. 30: 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and Oct. 27; 2 p.m. Oct. 16, 23 and 30 at Love Street Playhouse, 126 Love St., Woodland. Sole Support 2016 is a philanthropic 1K and 5K walks to support the programs serving residents facing Parkinson’s disease. It will be an afternoon of celebration, with live music, dancing, picnicking and family-friendly activities, hosted by Parkinson’s Resources Oregon. Local chefs will bring their best soups to battle during Soup’s On!, with each guest tasting and voting for the winner in this annual celebration.
