Joyce’s hat trick lead Clark past Rogue, 4-1

David Joyce scored three goals, including one 23 seconds into the match, as the Clark College men’s soccer team defeated Rogue College 4-1 on Saturday at Kim Christiansen Field in Vancouver.

Joyce, a sophomore from Brookings, Ore., added goals in the 22nd and 23rd minutes of the NWAC South division match.

Woodin Placide scored for Clark (4-1-6, 4-0-3 South) in the 55th minute.

Next for the Penguins is a matchup with Portland at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Harmony Sports Complex in east Vancouver.

WOMEN’S SOCCER: Clark had a bye Saturday. The Penguins, ranked No. 4 in the NWAC, won 4-0 on Wednesday at Chemeketa to improve to 9-0-2, 6-0-0 South.

The Penguins next host Portland a 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kim Christiansen Field on the Clark campus.

CROSS COUNTRY: The Clark men placed 12th out of 21 teams in the Gold race of the Charles Bowles Invitational at Salem, Ore., on Saturday.

NWAC men’s runner of the week Sam Garvin, a Mountain View grad, led the Penguins with an eighth-place finish. He covered the 8K course in 24 minutes, 52.5 seconds.

Cassie McKinney, the NWAC women’s runner of the week, placed 49th for Clark in the women’s 5K race. The Union High grad finished in 19:03.7. Clark did not have enough runners for a team score.

VOLLEYBALL: Clark lost to No. 1 ranked and undefeated Linn-Benton on Friday, 25-22, 25-18, 25-18. The Penguins, ranked sixth, are 15-8 overall, 3-1 South. They next host Chemeketa at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
