Ridgefield — More than 1,700 students and family members celebrated Thanksgiving at various schools in Ridgefield recently, as the Ridgefield School District hosted its annual Thanksgiving school lunch. South Ridge Elementary School had more than 600 guests at its Nov. 15 Thanksgiving lunch.

Union Ridge Elementary School, View Ridge Middle School and Ridgefield High School collectively served an additional 1,100 students, family members and school staff. The district’s food services, operated by Chartwells, work with community leaders from the city to organize the event. Mayor Ron Onslow, City Councilor Don Stose, Police Department Clerk Sandra Hoots and Police Chief John Brooks were in attendance, handing out food at one of the lunches.

Some of the high school students put on Chartwells characters costumes, mingling with the crowd dressed up as Lionel the Lion, Sydney the Turtle and Ava the Rabbit.
