As the month comes to an end, we begin the winter season Thursday with the arrival of December. November will go into the record books as a warm, wet month. As of Monday the average mean temperature was 52.4 degrees, 5.5 degrees above average. That is enough to probably make it the warmest November on record.
Rainfall in Vancouver didn’t let us down either with 6.65 inches in the bucket as of 4 p.m. Monday — 1.30 inches above average. One more low-pressure system will arrive later tonight into Wednesday and drops only a modest amount to the total. However, it will be enough to seal the wet stamp of approval for November.
The next batch of significant rain slides in by the weekend with valley rain and mountain snows. Speaking of snow, the Cascade passes finally received a dump of snow. The expectation last week was for maybe a couple of feet, but the weather gods had other ideas. With our flow of air from the northwest, any moisture for a while will be white in the passes.
I went for my annual jaunt to Sunriver for Thanksgiving, and driving was a breeze Wednesday and Sunday — only a few flurries with a dusting of white and bare pavement. That was good for holiday travelers.
