The Washougal School District Board of Directors will put up a new maintenance and operations levy and a replacement technology levy for public vote on Feb. 14.

Each would replace levies expiring at the end of 2017, and kick in starting in 2018.

The proposed maintenance and operations levy rates will remain flat throughout the next three years, 2018-2020, at $2.91 per $1,000 of assessed value. The current levy rate is $3.31 per $1,000 of assessed property.

The proposed technology levy rates will also remain flat during those three years, at 30 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. The levy it would replace was at 37 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value in 2015, 35 cents in 2016 and 34 cents in 2017.

The maintenance and operations levy funds services and operations not funded by the state or federal government, such as health and safety, instructional support, athletics and activities, student learning and staffing and operations and maintenance.

The technology levy pays for the district’s 1:1 initiative, which connects each child in the district with a personal device. It also helps bring in up-to-date computers and devices, classroom instructional technology, professional development and coaching, technology infrastructure and curriculum and software.
