Ridgefield — Each school in the Ridgefield School District set aside time for special assemblies in honor of Veterans Day, with veterans and members of the military attending the celebrations. At Union Ridge Elementary School’s assembly on Nov. 9, students from each grade performed for parents, staff, veterans and active-duty members of the military, and handed out donations, thank you notes, flowers and cards. Students at View Ridge Middle School sang “America the Beautiful” at their assembly on the same day and watched a video created by the student leadership group showing students and staff talking about their relatives who are veterans. Students Brandon Lehto and Tyler Lehnertz served as the emcees of Ridgefield High School’s Veterans Day assembly on Nov. 10, which featured performances by the school’s band and choir and a flag presentation by an honor guard comprised of members from a local Boy Scout troop. U.S. Army Sergeant Seth Christie gave a presentation, as well. South Ridge Elementary School’s assembly was on Nov. 14, and Principal Todd Graves read the students a story titled “The Wall” by Eve Bunting, in which a child reflects on his visit to the Vietnam War Memorial where his grandfather is honored.
