Landover-Sharmel — Washington State University Extension’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education launched a Harvest of the Month Campaign in local schools through a partnership with Ecotrust, a conversation group, and Chartwells, a food service company. The program recently visited Endeavour Elementary School in Evergreen Public Schools. November’s food of the month is legumes, and close to 700 plates of local hummus, pita bread and cherry tomatoes were served, and so many students enjoyed the treat that hummus will be on the school’s cafeteria menu later this month. The campaign brings members from the college’s nutrition program to participating elementary schools each month to help students try some local food not typically found in the cafeteria setting.
