Sometimes learning means getting your hands dirty.

Local parents brought their toddlers to a 1-2-3 Grow and Learn session Monday afternoon at Walnut Grove Elementary School. At the program, administered by Educational Service District 112, children younger than 5 finger-painted colorful works of art with their parents.

Jodi Wall, executive director for early care and education for ESD 112, said the free program is designed to help little learners build social skills and prepare for kindergarten.

“It’s intended to be a school readiness program,” Wall said.

Grow and Learn groups are available all week through the school year at Vancouver, Washougal and La Center elementary schools. No registration is required. For more information and a full schedule, visit esd112.org/ece.
