The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has released a photo of a person of interest in the investigation of hateful graffiti sprayed at Skyview High School early Tuesday.

A custodian arrived at Skyview High School on 1300 N.W. 139th St. early Tuesday and found graffiti on two walls. Security cameras caught footage of a man on school property at 1 a.m. Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office reports that the graffiti was “profanity directed at various societal demographics.” School staff cleaned the spray paint before students arrived.

The incident appears to be the latest in a string of incidents nationwide since last week’s election of Donald Trump for president. The Southern Poverty Law Center, which is tracking the incidents, reports more than 400 cases of hateful harassment, including graffiti, since the election.

Vancouver Public Schools Superintendent Steve Webb emailed families Thursday in an effort to reassure them their students are safe at school.

“Our responsibility is to lead and serve with love, teach tolerance and hold students accountable when they behave in ways that infringe on the rights of others,” Webb wrote.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who knows the person to call School Resource Deputy Scott Bain at 360-397-2211, ext. 5315, or email scott.bain@clark.wa.gov.
