Washougal — Students at Canyon Creek Middle School and Jemtegaard Middle School scripted and produced their own public service announcement videos on the dangers of vaping. The videos were shown during morning announcements. The project was led by Wendy Butler, student assistance counselor, and Bobby Walker, tobacco prevention coordinator, both from Educational Service District 112. The students at Canyon Creek made their video about a student asking friends to try vaping, and then going over the health risks. One student in the group said it was important to stick to the facts in the video and not resort to scare tactics, according to a release from the district. “We are hoping this work helps to build a foundation of facts and interpersonal skills to use peer pressure in a positive way and to recognize it when it is used negatively,” Butler said in the same release.
