Weather Eye: Normal weather returns; Thursday, Friday dry for outdoor plans

One note of interest is the lack of freezing temperatures so far this fall. Portland has yet to dip into the 30s and when they do it will be the latest in 75 years or so. Vancouver officially reached 39 degrees on October 12.

Colder air aloft will be floating in today and the snow levels will drop to pass levels by tonight and Wednesday with several inches expected. We will dry out Thursday and Friday as high pressure and east winds take over. That will lead to chilly overnight lows Thursday. We could see some freezing temperatures away from the wind in some colder locations around the county.

The next batch of rain is scheduled over the weekend.

We missed the Super Moon Sunday night with all the cloud cover and rain.

Sunday’s high temperature was 58 degrees, only the second time this month with a high below 60 degrees. Monday’s high struggled to reach the mid-50s. I think we are rapidly sliding back to normal.

For us weather and climate folks this is the last month of the autumn season. December 1st will usher in the beginning of winter. The darkening of skies in late afternoon attest to that.

I love fall for the crisp, clean air and the brilliant colors of the scenery. Winter can be an awesome time as well, like walking outside early in the morning upon freshly fallen snow. There is also the excitement of festive holidays and family gatherings.

There is a season for everything under the sun. And soon we transition to one that is cold and dark outside while hopefully warm and merry inside.
