A Vancouver woman who allegedly drove head-on into another vehicle on Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard appeared in Clark County Superior Court on Monday.
Susan L. Johnson, 51, is facing an allegation of vehicular assault in connection with the Sunday collision. The driver of the other vehicle, David McMullin, suffered a broken left femur, court records show.
Police were dispatched shortly after 6:30 p.m. to Fourth Plain and Northeast 131st Avenue. Upon arrival, they saw fire personnel working to extricate McMullin from a 1999 Buick Park Avenue, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Two witnesses told police the crash was caused by the driver of a Nissan Altima.
Police said the driver of the Nissan, identified as Johnson, smelled strongly of alcohol and had slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes, court records state.
Johnson was adamant that the other vehicle struck her. She admitted to drinking beer several hours before the crash and allegedly failed a field sobriety test, according to court documents.
A preliminary breath test estimated she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.243 more than an hour after the crash, the affidavit said.
During her hearing, the prosecution said Johnson has a history of driving under the influence and negligent driving.
Judge Gregory Gonzales appointed Johnson an attorney and set her bail at $25,000. She will be arraigned Nov. 18.
