Council seeks volunteers with interest in recycling, garbage disposal

Vancouver — The Board of County Councilors seeks potential volunteers to represent southwest Clark County and agricultural interests on the Solid Waste Advisory Commission.

The commission gives the county recommendations on issues surrounding recycling, garbage collection, landfills, transfer stations and waste reduction.

Members meet at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of February, May, August and November at the Center for Community Health, 1601 E. Fourth Plain Blvd.

Volunteers must apply for the position. They also must live south of 179th Street and west of state Highway 503/Northeast 117th Avenue or its extension. The area includes the Fairgrounds, Salmon Creek, Felida, Lake Shore, Hazel Dell, Minnehaha, Walnut Grove, Five Corners, north Orchards and Vancouver west of 117th Avenue.

Applicants wanting to represent agriculture must have experience with farming and food processing, the extension office, conservation district or other agricultural agencies, compost or agricultural debris facilities, or other agricultural enterprises in Clark County.

Both positions have three-year terms and start when filled.
