Weather Eye: Above-average temperatures to linger a little longer

After a few drips and sprinkles early Wednesday, skies cleared off and once again we enjoyed the autumn season with above-average temperatures. Today we are offered another great day with highs way above average and pushing well into the 60s.

Can you believe that Vancouver has had only one day with highs not in the 60s? That was Nov. 5 with 58 degrees. Talk about record-breaking temperatures. We are running nearly 8 degrees above normal on the average mean temperature. It makes one wonder when the payback will arrive.

Next week may be a transitional week with lowering snow levels in the mountains and temperatures back in the 30s, 40s and 50s, where they belong this time of the year.

Consider that Vancouver’s average temperatures for today are a high of 55 degrees and a low of 41. Most of Clark County has yet to reach the freezing point of 32 degrees. Yes, many outlying suburbs had frost on grasses, cars and rooftops, but no official freeze yet.

Vancouver reached 39 degrees on Oct. 12 but only 41 degrees in November, on the 4th. The inner city usually sees the first freeze by Thanksgiving. I know many roses are still blooming, and geraniums and a few other flower varieties are still showing some of their summer color.

Upcoming weather has another wet system arriving late Friday with showers Saturday. Close on the heels of that event we have a cold front due Sunday. Afterwards, snow levels lower to pass levels next week. Winter is in the wings, folks.

Blessings to all the veterans out there!
