Washougal — Hathaway Elementary School’s first back-to-school event was held Oct. 26, combining a community resource fair, carnival, book fair, curriculum presentations for fourth and fifth grades and free vision screenings by The Lions Foundation into one event. Last year, the school hosted a community resource fair and wanted to do it again to help families learn about all the school has to offer. Family Resource Coordinator Nancy Boon, Andy Schlauch, a Hathaway teacher, the Hathaway Boosters group and other volunteers organized the event and decided to add in all the other elements to draw even more people. The school brought in local agencies that deal with nutrition, mental health, housing and early childhood development.
