Once again, Nancy Barnes appeared as though she would retain her seat as Clark Public Utilities commissioner, according to preliminary election results.

She had 64.06 percent of the vote while opponent Mike Lyons had 35.36 percent as of Tuesday night. Barnes was winning 78,623 to 43,399 votes shortly after polls closed.

Barnes has held the District 2 seat, which covers southeastern Clark County, since 1992. The position carries a six-year term.

Lyons, who is also a commissioner for Clark County Fire District 5, finished a distant second out of four candidates in August’s primary. He ran against Lyons in 2010, losing by 1 percentage point.
