Workshop on hazardous trees is Wednesday night

Vancouver’s Urban Forestry office invites the public to learn how to know and manage hazardous trees at a free TreeTalk workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at Vancouver City Hall, 415 W. Sixth St.

This time of year brings lots of windy, wet weather, and that can cause some property owners to fear for the health and safety of their trees. Learning about tree defects in advance can help ease those worries, make the environment safer and potentially guard against liability.

Certified arborists and tree assessors will be present to lead the discussion and answer questions.

“Most trees fail because of an existing defect in the tree, such as cankers, decay and root problems,” Vancouver Urban Forester Charles Ray said in a news release. “Professionals are trained to recognize these existing conditions and work with the home owner to reduce them.”

For those wanting to know more about their trees before the meeting or to learn about upcoming workshops, visit the city’s Urban Forestry webpage at: www.cityofvancouver.us/urbanforestry, or call 360-487-8308.
