Battle Ground — A group of local ladies have turned monthly get-together into a 50-year tradition. The eight women meet once a month September through May at each other’s homes to play the dice game of bunco. Sharen Shierman wrote that the club began when they were young mothers who wanted a night out without the kids. Shierman and Sharon Schill are the group’s original players, with Sharon Uusitalo and Judy Allen joining more than 40 years ago, Lori Blunt playing for 34 years and Karen Riggs for 20. The newest members, Jackie Hegedus and Dawn Tibor, joined eight and 13 years, respectively, ago. The women also take part in an annual Christmas party with ornament exchange. Bunco is a popular parlor game that revolves around accumulating points by rolling the right combinations of dice. When asked about accepting new members, Shierman commented that they would have to know a new member for a long while, so the group could continue to reminisce.
