Esther Short — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington and the Rotary Club of Vancouver teamed up to dedicate Peace Poles at the club’s Clinton and Gloria John Clubhouse, O.K. Clubhouse and Heights O.K. 2 Clubhouse locations. Each pole reads “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in English, Spanish, Russian and Chuukese, which were selected by the Boys and Girls Clubs to honor the diversity of the club’s members and families. The Rotary is involved with the project because of its Area of Focus on Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution. The Rotary Club of Vancouver, which installed the poles, sponsors a peer mediation and conflict resolution program with the clubs. About 200,000 Peace Poles are installed throughout the world, and more will be installed in the county next year.
