I hope everyone had a great Monday and the trick-or-treaters received all treats and no tricks, except maybe from the pesky rain showers that were still occurring late Monday afternoon. I mentioned here a week ago that it could be on the damp side of things Halloween and to have a plan B. however, it did look like the band of moisture was moving off in the late afternoon and perhaps many had a dry journey.
Another weak weather system was slated for later tonight and Wednesday, but amounts at this time looked on the light side. Still, after 29 days of rain in October, it doesn’t take much to shake our heads. Enough is enough!
We did manage to surpass the 8-inch mark Monday afternoon and that is still the all-time rainfall record for October going clear back to 1892. That is quite impressive, to say the least. Monday afternoon Portland was still less than a tenth of an inch from breaking its all-time October rainfall record.
Vancouver had 8.22 inches measured Monday afternoon and Portland International Airport had 8.23 inches. The record for PDX is 8.44 inches set in 1994. Portland must have had some good frog stranglers in 1994, as Vancouver did not measure that great amount. Our friends up in Seattle also broke their October rainfall record Monday.
