Woodland — Beginning Tuesday, Woodland Action, a nonprofit food bank and thrift store, will celebrate Hunger Awareness Week with events to raise community awareness of local hunger.

“Hunger is an issue many people are not comfortable talking about,” Woodland Action Executive Director Leslie Mohlman said in a news release. “We are going to interrupt the food conversation, so that the voice of hunger can be considered. Let’s give hunger a chance to be heard as loudly as possible this week.”

Volunteers are going to share their stories of hunger on social media, and the thrift store will offer a 20 percent discount throughout the week.

Luckman’s Coffee at 1230 Lewis River Road, will have a special blend of coffee named for Woodland Action on sale throughout the week.

Several Woodland businesses and organizations have set up fundraising events for the week. From 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, the Burgerville at 1120 Lewis River Road will donate 10 percent of its proceeds to the effort. The Dairy Queen at 1225 Lewis River Road will donate 10 percent of the proceeds raised from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 2. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 4, Woodland Action volunteers will sell potted succulents made from donated glass to earn money for a resource room at the Woodland Farmers Market, 1382 Lewis River Road.

Woodland Action is at 736 Davidson Ave. in Woodland. For more information, visit www.woodlandaction.org.
