Vancouver — The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington has awarded $25,000 to Second Step Housing for its Step Up to Eliminate Poverty Resident Sufficiency program.
The program aims to prepare previously homeless households for long-term self-sufficiency. These are “people who have not been successful in permanent housing due to many, often simultaneously occurring, barriers that cause housing instability, including lack of income, active addictions, untreated mental health (issues) and involvement in the legal system,” the nonprofit group said in a press release.
This year, the Community Foundation is focusing its grants on interrupting the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
