Police arrested a Vancouver man Wednesday for allegedly dragging a dog behind his pickup, killing the animal.

Officers were called to the 3300 block of East 21st Street on Sunday afternoon after receiving a report that a dog had been dragged by a truck to a home there, then was taken inside, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Witnesses reported hearing a dog yelping and crying. Witnesses also saw a dog hanging by a leash beside a truck driving in the area of East 28th Street and Grand Avenue, police said.

Officers got a warrant and searched the home after they were unable to get inside to check on the dog. Inside, officers found a dead female dog, police said. Clark County Animal Control took the dog in order to conduct a necropsy.

Late Wednesday afternoon, officers returned to the house and arrested David Kadow, 52, on suspicion of first-degree animal cruelty and third-degree driving with a suspended license.
