Vancouver — On Tuesday, the U.S. House Appropriations Committee approved a 2017 bill that funds affordable housing and hunger programs, including those in Clark County and Vancouver.

Last year, Vancouver was awarded $1,157,637 in Community Development Block Grants and $529,874 in HOME Investment Partnerships funding. The money was used for 21 local programs, including rental assistance, Share’s backpack food program and remodeling Columbia River Mental Health’s main clinic.

The bill also includes $2.487 billion for Homeless Assistance Grant funding.

Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, helped craft this bill, which will move to a vote on the U.S. House floor.
