TROUT LAKE — Popular Goose Lake in Gifford Pinchot National Forest is accessible from the east and being planted this week with brown and cutthroat trout.

The lake will get 6,000 cutthroat trout and 1,500 brown trout, according to John Allen of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Skamania Hatchery.

State biologist John Weinheimer of Carson said on Monday there is almost no snow on roads Nos. 24 and 60 leading from Trout Lake west to Goose Lake.

However, there are snow drifts on road No. 60 west of Goose Lake.

Weinheimer said the lake is full, but the boat ramp has large logs across it, preventing use of a trailer.

The Forest Service charges a $5 day-use fee at Goose Lake. Federal recreation passes such as a Northwest Forest Pass or senior pass also are accepted as payment.
