1. Wear your hard hat

Play in a giant sandbox this weekend at the popular Dozer Day event, which allows children to get behind the controls of heavy construction equipment. Participants can drive dozers, excavators and dump trucks with a professional operator and explore fire engines and ambulances. There will be music and activities such as digging for treasure, tire crawls and pipe mazes. Proceeds benefit local children’s charities. Dozer Day runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 21 and 22 at the Clark County Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. Tickets are $10 to $13, and $8 to $11 for seniors and ages 3 to 12, with $6 for parking. 360-608-6746 or vancouver.dozerday.org

 2. Free fun

Get out and about at the Marshall Community Center, 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd., during the free Family Fun Day. From noon to 5 p.m. May 21, visitors can try out activities offered by the community center, with access to the fitness center, public swim sessions, sports and games. There will be face-painting and pottery demonstrations. Due to limited pool space, swim sessions will take place at noon, 1:45 and 3:30 p.m. with bracelets for each session handed out 45 minutes in advance. Free. www.cityofvancouver.us/FamilyFunDay

 3. Frog and Toad

Journey Theater Arts Group presents the whimsical tale of “A Year With Frog and Toad.” The cheerful, popular Frog and the grumpy Toad are best friends who celebrate their differences through the four seasons. Performances begin at 7 p.m. May 20, 21 and 27; 2 p.m. May 22 and 29; and 3 p.m. May 28 at the Washburn Performing Arts Center, 1201 39th St., Washougal.  4. Queen of Romania

It will be a Romanian Arts and Culture Festival out in the Columbia River Gorge as the Maryhill Museum of Art celebrates the 90th anniversary of Queen Marie of Romania’s visit to Maryhill and her dedication of the then-incomplete museum. During her visit, the queen donated a collection of personal art and royal memorabilia, some of which will be on display. The festival will feature folk dancing and food samples, with activities for children and performances throughout the day, including appearances by the Datina Folk Ensemble and songwriter Abigail Budak. The festival will run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 21 at the museum, 35 Maryhill Museum Drive, Goldendale. Free. 509-773-3733 or maryhillmuseum.org
