Weather Eye: Bring umbrella or poncho to the Hazel Dell Parade of Bands

Last month at this time I was writing about sitting in the shade and having a cold ice tea. Nope, not this time. Cool showery weather is with us for several days, maybe longer. It looks like the cool and damp weather will last to Memorial Day weekend. Some forecast models indicate it continues through the holiday, others are more optimistic.

The Hazel Dell Parade of Bands is Saturday. Rain or shine? Looking into the crystal ball it shows a 40 to 50 percent chance of showers and highs in the mid-60s. I say not bad considering the overall change in the weather pattern. So curbside, maybe bring an umbrella or poncho.

Let’s review some rainfall for April from your friends and neighbors. Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 3.28 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 2.56 inches; Bob Starr, Cougar, 3.17 inches; Gary Collins, Brush Prairie, 2.60 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 2.24 inches; Pete Conrad near Tukes Mountain, 2.17 inches; Merle Moore, 2 miles west of Yacolt, 5.31 inches; Dan Hein, Camas, 2.80 inches; Dave Campbell, 1 mile west of Heisson, 2.93 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 3.63 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 2.20 inches; Larry Lebsack, Barberton, 2.31 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 2.15 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 2.14 inches; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 1.56 inches; and Roland Derksen from Vancouver, B.C., had 1.06 inches. The official rainfall for our Vancouver was 1.77 inches.

As you can tell, amounts were generally one-half to three-quarters or more less than March.
