The Battle Ground, Camas, La Center, Ridgefield and Washougal police departments and the Clark and Skamania county sheriff’s offices will join a national seat belt enforcement effort with extra patrols on the road starting Monday.
Extra officers from local agencies, along with the Washington State Patrol, will be on the road through June 5 as part of the nationwide Click It or Ticket campaign, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. A seat belt ticket is $136.
Ninety-five percent of Washington motorists wear seat belts, according to the commission’s annual seat belt survey from 2015. Even so, about 100 unsecured motorists are killed in crashes each year in the state.
