U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, announced the birth of her son on Facebook.

The boy, Ethan, was born early Wednesday morning.

“It’s with great joy that Dan and I share that our brand new baby boy, Ethan Beutler, was born early yesterday morning,” Herrera Beutler wrote on Facebook. “Ethan and I are of course a little tired, but are otherwise healthy and doing great.”

Herrera Beutler’s first child, Abigail, was born three months premature and without kidneys. She weighed 2 pounds 12 ounces. She was the first baby to survive bilateral renal agenesis, commonly referred to as Potter’s sequence, or syndrome, Herrera Beutler said.

Abigail’s survival of the often-fatal syndrome garnered national attention and she was called the “miracle baby.”

Abigail received a kidney transplant from Daniel Beutler, her father and the congresswoman’s husband, in February and is doing well.

Herrera Beutler is serving her third term in Congress and recently filed to run for a fourth term.

State Rep. Jim Moeller, D-Vancouver, announced earlier this week he’s jumping into the race for the 3rd Congressional District with the hopes of unseating Herrera Beutler.

Democrat David McDevitt, a Vancouver resident, also has announced he’s running for the seat.
