Esther Short — The Humane Society of Southwest Washington raised more than $185,000 at the 25th annual Walk/Run for the Animals on May 7. More than 1,200 people participated in the 5K run or 3-mile walk at Esther Short Park, which was followed by the “Sit. Stay. Show Off!” pet trick competition and dog agility course. Teams and individual fundraisers brought in nearly $92,000, which was about $13,000 more than 2015. Sheryl Bateman was the top individual fundraiser with $6,101, and the Big Meowski was the top fundraising team with $15,736.
