A deputy assigned to Columbia River High School resuscitated a student who collapsed in one of the school’s gyms after school Wednesday, apparently saving his life.

Clark County Sheriff Chuck Atkins said Albin Boyse, the school resource officer, performed CPR on the student after he went down during a football-related workout.

Vancouver Public Schools spokeswoman Pat Nuzzo said an ambulance was called to the school around 2:40 p.m. The school day ends at 2:05 p.m.

Nuzzo said the student was responsive and was transported to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. The student’s parents were notified.
