Union will play for a second consecutive Rugby Oregon boys high school championship.

Union will face the Portland Pumas at 11 a.m. Saturday at Delta Park in the Varsity Premiership Cup Final. The Pumas represent Portland’s Central Catholic High School.

Union, unbeaten in Rugby Oregon play, rolled to a 74-0 win over Lincoln of Portland in the May 14 semifinal round. The Pumas won their semifinal 71-5 over Oregon City.

On April 16, Union beat the Pumas 45-12. But Union coach David Curle said he expects a challenge from the improved Central Catholic side.

One week after participating in the Pacific Cup invitational at San Francisco, Union used its ball-handling skills and speed to sprint past Lincoln.

“We played very well. The lessons we learned in San Francisco bore fruit,” coach Curle said.

Union played with three of its regular starters out because of injury. Gurtej Singh, starting in place of flyhalf Brendon Curle, was selected man of the match for Union.

Reynolds 36, Prairie 5 — In a bowl semifinal for the teams that finished in places 5-8 in the regular season, Reynolds was too strong for the Wolf Pack. Prairie scored first, but the Reynolds backline was too big and fast for Prairie to contain according to Prairie coach John Fletcher.

Fullback Eric Creamer led Prairie in tackles. Fletcher said Yousef Kitali played well until retiring with an injury.

Prairie will play Summit of Bend, Ore., for the seventh-place Shield trophy at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lents Park in southeast Portland.

Battle Ground 35, Union B 0 — Because of a shortage of qualified players, Union’s second team forfeited the consolation match for teams that did not place among the top eight in the regular season.

East Oregon 17, Clark County 0 — In the Club Championship playoffs, the team from Pendleton, Ore., outlasted the Clark County Warriors in a consolation semifinal match played May 14. Details from the match were not reported to The Columbian. The Warriors face the North Clackamas Crusaders at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Lents Park for sixth place.

Girls rugby — The Lady Barbarians of Beaverton beat Battle Ground 60-7 in a Cup semifinal match. Battle Ground will face North Clackamas at 3 p.m. on Saturday for third place in the girls Club Championship Division.
