Oregon sheriff’s deputies arrested a Vancouver man Monday on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle on the Oregon Coast.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Monday afternoon to a report of a stolen Honda CBR 600 in Waldport, Ore. Later that day, the owner called the sheriff’s office after a friend located his missing motorcycle near a market, and said the thief apparently fled north on Highway 101 in a red BMW sedan. The victim said a friend followed the BMW, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies met with the victim, who was with his bike, and then searched the area. About a half-hour later, another deputy found the BMW parked in a driveway roughly 2 miles north. A witness came and identified one of the two men in the car, Josef Todd Keys, 38, of Vancouver, as the one seen with the stolen motorcycle earlier that day.

Keys was booked into the Lincoln County Jail pending charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. His bail was set at $100,000, the sheriff’s office said.

The motorcycle was released to the owner.
