Ellsworth Springs — Umpqua Bank’s Charitable Foundation announced it is awarding a $5,000 grant to the Geometry in Construction program at the Evergreen Habitat for Humanity. The program provides classes for teens at two high schools to develop real-world applications of geometry and other math skills in the classroom that help to build a house. The grant will allow the program to expand offering safer, stable housing for families in the Clark County area. Nicole Stein, vice president of Community Responsibility at Umpqua Bank, said that beyond the skills learned in the classroom, the Geometry in Construction program helps encourage youths to become leaders in affordable housing issues and initiatives in their own community. “As a community bank, with a presence in Vancouver, we believe we have an obligation to invest in programs that are essential to the long-term economic health and development of the community,” said Stein. “We’re inspired by Evergreen Habitat for Humanity and their work to make home ownership a reality for families in the Vancouver community.”
