CAMAS — Alexis Morrison got a big hit for her dad, for her community, for her team Wednesday afternoon.

Her two-run single in the top of the eighth inning also gave Battle Ground an undefeated league season.

Parker Boyd continued her impressive season in the pitcher’s circle, striking out 13 in a one-hitter, and the Tigers beat Camas 2-0 to finish the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League at 12-0. As the top seed headed to the district tournament, Battle Ground is assured a berth to the bi-district playoffs.

“My dad just had surgery. I wanted to get a hit for him,” Morrison said, adding that her father is doing well.

The game meant little in terms of the standings for Battle Ground. The Tigers had already clinched the league title. But they did want to go undefeated in league.

“I think we just really wanted to make Battle Ground proud,” Morrison said.

Boyd gave up a hit with in the third inning, ending a streak of 16 consecutive perfect innings. She has pitched 31.2 consecutive scoreless innings now, striking out 67 batters since she gave up a run in the sixth inning against Union on April 27.

Katie Hancock got the hit for Camas in Wednesday’s regular-season finale.

The Papermakers finished 9-3 in league play, tied for second with Skyview. Those two teams are expected to play Friday to determine the No. 2 seed to next week’s district tournament.
