The main road between Interstate 5 and downtown Ridgefield is to reopen fully today.
Since a landslide on Jan. 28, Pioneer Street has been a one-lane road between North Smythe Road and North Reiman Road with temporary traffic lights at both ends.
Pioneer Street will reopen as a two-lane road once the final striping is done on the road, according to a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation. The work is anticipated to be completed today, allowing the road to fully reopen sometime this evening, according to the release.
After heavy rains eroded the hillside adjacent to the roadway, crews removed more than 240 truckloads of slide material and built a rock-faced slope to stabilize the hillside, the release said.
“We’re thankful our contractor completed this emergency repair work on schedule,” Lori Figone, department project engineer, said in the release. “We know lane closures are an inconvenience and appreciated the community’s patience while this vital work was done.”
