I hope you enjoyed our summer-like weather yesterday as the afternoon temperatures soared into the mid-80s. And this is early May? No, but today is early May (weather).
Yep, clouds and much cooler weather are back today, not what I was hoping for Mother’s Day. But is a nice day anyway, keeping the faith. A weak weather system went by to our north last night and ushered in marine air with the only chance of the sun shining being late afternoon and evening. At least, that was the plan as I write this column late Saturday.
No worry, however; as high pressure builds inland, we should see highs close to 80 degrees again Tuesday through Friday. It will be chilly overnight, especially Monday night, with lows dipping into the 30s in outlying areas.
I don’t really see much if any rain heading our way in the next 10 days or so. We will see moisture creeping up from the south later in the week, which will induce some scattered thunderstorms. That always presents itself as a threat to inland lowlands, so we may see some raindrops here and there. But it will be warm.
And warm it is, May is following in the heels of April which was the warmest on record. As of Saturday afternoon, Vancouver’s May average mean temperature was 64 degrees, 8.5 degrees above average.
The National Climate Center is predicting the rest of the month will be much warmer and drier than average. Well, we have a good start on that, with rainfall totaling only 0.11 of an inch, over 0.5 inch below average.
While it is nice to enjoy such unusual early summery weather, I’m sure it won’t be long before we are talking about wildfires and water shortages. D?j? vu?
I was at the beach yesterday and I can tell you it was almost perfect with temperatures under a full sun in the mid- to upper 60s. Better than the hotter temperatures inland. There were lots of folks playing and strolling in the beach sands.
