Vancouver — Community Services Northwest, a Vancouver-based provider of mental health, housing and addiction recovery, was awarded $384,967 in grants by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on Monday.

The Continuum of Care grants support the nonprofit’s ongoing supportive housing programs, Way Home Too and Way Home III, that house chronically homeless people. The programs’ 26 subsidies are given out without stipulation; participants aren’t required to get sober or signed up with programs to address substance abuse or mental illness.

This is the second round of funding since HUD announced awards in March totaling $940,004 for Clark County, including $52,054 for another Community Services Northwest program, Family Housing Northwest. HUD granted Clark County $1,254,256 in 2014 and $1,517,539 in 2015.

The agency said that 2016 was the most competitive year ever to apply for Continuum of Care grants, resulting in some lower-performing programs not receiving renewed funding.
