Saturday was a delight with clear blue skies in the afternoon and nice dry north-northwest breezes. Temperatures at 4 p.m. were near the 70-degree mark almost everywhere around the state. There was a bunch of 70s along the east slopes of the Cascades, in the likes of Yakima, Ellensburg and Wenatchee.
Those north-northwest winds will veer to the east, and offshore winds will push temperatures along the coast today well into the 70s, and most likely 80 degrees. It will be that warm locally and warmer yet Monday — well in the 80s, and maybe a 90 here and there. This will be the third time in the past few weeks that we had a mini heat wave. Unbelievable.
Don’t worry, the hot weather won’t last. A stream of moisture pushing northward from California will usher in clouds and unstable air. This will kick off some thunderstorms mainly along the Cascades, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few stray into the valleys.
Temperatures will tumble Tuesday through Thursday as a cold trough of low pressure spins overhead. So we raise the shower flag for a few days.
