Edgewood Park — The 10th Annual Flying Hands ASL poetry competition was held March 10 at the Washington School for the Deaf. This annual literature competition involves deaf students from across the region sharing their culture and experiences as a deaf person with peers as well as the public using American Sign Language. There was also a competition in deaf art for all grades known as De’Via (Deaf Visual Image Art). This year, WSD hosted students from Vancouver, B.C., and Tacoma. The competition began at 9 a.m. with pre-K students and went all the way to 3 p.m., with the seniors closing out the competition. Voice interpreters were available for some aspects of the storytelling and competition.
