Symposium to explore environmental justice

The Collective for Social and Environmental Justice at Washington State University Vancouver has announced its spring symposium, titled Environmental and Climate Justice Practices.

The event is scheduled to run from 10:20 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. April 8 on the WSUV campus at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., Vancouver. It is free and open to the public.

The event includes:

• Montana State University professor and Northern Cheyenne Tribe member Gail Small’s presentation, titled “Climate Justice in Indian Country” from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.

• Skidmore College professor and WSU alumnus Rik Scarce’s talk, “Trajectories of Injustices: Reflections on Three Decades of Radical Environmentalism” from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.

• Cindy Wiesner, national coordinator of Grassroots Global Justice Alliance and co-chair of the Climate Justice Alliance and the Our Power Campaign, will present “It Takes Roots: Frontline Communities at COP21 and Beyond,” from 2:45 to 4 p.m.
