A La Center woman made a first appearance Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court after allegedly raping a 15-year-old boy and giving him methamphetamine.

Jennifer L. Tennant, 39, appeared to face allegations of third-degree child rape and delivering a controlled substance to a minor. The alleged abuse began last summer, court records show.

The boy reported the abuse and drug use in February. He told detectives that Tennant, whom he knows, abused him 20 to 30 times and also supplied him methamphetamine on three separate occasions. He said they used the drug together but that he had also previously taken Tennant’s methamphetamine and used it without her knowledge, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Superior Court.

Two witnesses told detectives that they heard and saw what they believed to be sexual behavior between Tennant and the boy on more than one occasion, the affidavit said.

During her hearing, Tennant declined to be screened for a court-appointed attorney and said she will hire her own.

The prosecution said Tennant violated a position of trust with the victim and asked that she be held on $100,000 bail.

Judge Scott Collier set bail at $80,000. Tennant will be arraigned April 8.
