Weather Eye: March will go out like a lamb after coming in like a lion

Remember when March roared in like a lion? With heavy wind, rain and mountain snows? It will be a dead ringer that March will stroll leisurely out like a lamb.

High pressure will build over us after lingering showers Monday. Frost is possible early Tuesday as the coattails of the cold air mass drag over us.

Warmer weather with highs in the 60s, maybe the low 70s, is on the way. Dry, mild weather will last into the weekend as it looks right now.

Offshore flow will usher easterly winds down the Gorge, fanning out over the western valleys and to the ocean beaches. This will help raise the afternoon temperatures Thursday and Friday.

Today will see scattered rain showers and mountain snow with 2 to 6 inches expected over the Cascade passes today and tonight. A few snow showers will linger Monday as well. Then spring skiing conditions will exist most of the week.

Saturday dawned somewhat clear and sunny, and the early spring sunshine presented itself for a good share of the day. Clouds increased and rain began around 5 p.m. I think most Easter egg hunts were accomplished without misery,at least weather-wise.

I guess I left out our friend Roland Derksen of Vancouver, B.C. ,with his February rainfall report. He measured 7.21 inches; contrast that to 3.81 inches in Vancouver USA.

As of 5 p.m. Saturday, the March rainfall tally in our Vancouver was 5.10 inches, 2 inches above average. The god news is the last few days of the month will see no rain.

Have a blessed Easter.
