Bagley Downs — A small group of volunteers made their way out to the Healthy Homeland Community Garden on March 12 for a workshop on winter pruning and techniques to maintain the community orchard. The orchard was planted four years ago through a collaboration of Urban Forestry, Urban Abundance, and Columbia River Mental Health, where the orchard resides. The workshop was part of Urban Abundance’s Fruit Tree Stewards’ Series held in Clark County Community Orchards. Urban Abundance is a program of Slow Food Southwest Washington, and has harvested and maintained Clark County’s community and backyard orchards through volunteer efforts since 2010. Located in the International District of the Fourth Plain Corridor, the orchard and community garden is a diverse space offering a mix of nut trees, persimmons, quinces, apples, and Asian pears.
