Washougal ± The Washougal School district upgraded the level of safety in schools last week with new classroom door hardware that allows doors to be locked from the inside. The safety measure was implemented and made possible because of a capital bond approved by Washougal voters in February. The new hardware will increase the safety of teachers and students in the event of a crisis lockdown situation. The work was completed by Clay West from Keys West in Camas over the course of several weeks during non-school hours. “Safety was a primary concern of the bond and is a top priority for Washougal schools,” said Mike Stromme, superintendent of Washougal School District. “These locks will go a long way to providing additional security in our classrooms for students and teachers.”
