Students learn life-saving techniques at Red Cross conference

Fourth Plain Village Neighborhood — Members of the Southwest Washington Red Cross Youth Council imparted some life-saving lessons to fellow students Feb. 20 and 21 when they participated in the ninth annual Leadership Development Conference at the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross in Portland. Youth Council members led several team-building exercises, as well as seminars on topics including disaster preparedness, the power of positivity, teamwork in everyday situations, problem solving and effective communication. Additionally, 30 students were trained in CPR/AED, and another 30 were certified for first aid by peer instructors. The 80 students attending the two-day conference represented multiple schools in Clark County, including Mountain View High School, Columbia River High School, Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, Union High School, Battle Ground High School, Fort Vancouver High School, Skyview High School, Hudson’s Bay High School and Camas High School.
