Woodland– People at Promise Church were rocking out for a good cause March 5 during the “Love Thy Neighbor” concert to help combat hunger. Roughly 50 people attended the event, organized by the Woodland Action Center. They raised $700 at the event, and community donors have offered to match that amount. Musical group The Family Harp, along with Christian parody band Truth Be Told performed some classic rock during the evening’s festivities. Woodland Action Center’s main focus is on the distribution of food, personal hygiene and household items to low-income individuals and families. In an average month, the group distributes about 50,000 pounds of food to those in need. Organizers hope that with increased community support, their outreach can grow. “Currently Woodland Action Center is primarily run by volunteers, and we are in desperate need of more help,” said Blakely Heckman, program development volunteer. “Our vision for the future is bright, but also requires community support and partnerships.” To learn more about Woodland Action Center or how to donate or become a volunteer visit http://woodlandaction.org/.
