Humane Society honors volunteers who helped in 2015

Fisher’s Landing — The Humane Society for Southwest Washington recently honored those who volunteered for the organization in 2015. A record 103,000 hours were donated by more than 760 volunteers in 2015, making it the largest number of volunteer hours in the organization’s history. Part of the reason for the high volunteer rate is the implementation of a kitten foster program that turned volunteers’ homes into kitten nurseries and families into their caregivers. Some kittens were only a few days old and were saved and nurtured by the dedicated work of these volunteers. In addition to the foster program, volunteers aided in the day-to-day duties when they walked dogs, cleaned litter boxes, did laundry, processed and priced donated items, and made sure all events were fully staffed. “When we say it takes a village around here, we truly mean it,” Stacey Graham, Humane Society president, said in a press release. “Our volunteers are passionate and caring, and we are truly grateful.”
