Investigators in Oregon are looking for additional information after arresting a man on suspicion of multiple sexual assaults, including an alleged attack of a Clark County woman.
Officers arrested Anthony Ray Carter Jr., 30, on March 4, on multiple sexual assault charges following an investigation into the sexual assault of two women, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
On Thursday, a Multnomah County grand jury indicted Carter on charges of first-degree rape, three counts of first-degree sex abuse, one count of first-degree unlawful penetration, one count of attempted first-degree rape, two counts of third-degree sex abuse, four counts of coercion, one count of fourth-degree assault and one count of third-degree robbery.
Detectives believe there may be additional victims who have not come forward, police said.
Investigators said that in each of the sexual assault cases, Carter met his victims online, including through Facebook and the dating website Plenty of Fish. Carter used different names with each of his victims, including Travis Lynn and Jacob, and he has also been known to go by AJ.
Carter arranged to meet each of his victims — including the Clark County woman — in person, then he would pick them up at or near their homes, according to police.
After picking them up, Carter allegedly tried to disorient his victims by driving to areas of Portland with which they were unfamiliar. Then, police said, he’d take their cellphones and sexually assault them in or around his vehicle.
Carter used different vehicles in each of the assaults, police said, including an older-model red Chevrolet Camaro with a primer-colored hood and T-top roof, as well as a newer white Mercedes sedan with a sunroof and blacked-out wheels.
Detectives found that Carter has been involved in numerous private vehicle sales, and therefore think he didn’t drive any one vehicle for long.
Police released Carter’s photo to media and described him as 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 160 pounds.
Investigators are asking anyone with helpful information regarding the case, or who had a similar experience with Carter, to contact Portland police Detective Mike Weinstein at 503-823-0764 or Mike.Weinstein@PortlandOregon.gov. Or, they can contact Detective Nathan Sheppard at 503-823-3886 or Nathan.Sheppard@PortlandOregon.gov.
