Timbers at San Jose

Kickoff: 4 p.m. Sunday at Avaya Stadium, San Jose, Calif.

TV: Fox Sports 1. Radio: 750 AM/102.9 FM.

Records: Both teams opened the season with home wins.

Notable: The Timbers are on a 10-match unbeaten streak dating to the end of last season and their run to MLS Cup and including Sunday’s 2-1 home win over Columbus. Newly acquired Timbers winger Jack Barmby is not expected to play. …. Look for Jermaine Taylor to make his second consecutive start at left back. Timbers coach Caleb Porter this week said that Chris Klute is making progress, but needs at least one more scrimmage with T2 to be game-ready. Porter described the Earthquakes as a team of men whose physical presence makes them a challenging matchup … Two games between San Jose and Portland last season produced one goal — a 91st-minute winner by Jack Jewsbury at Providence Park. … Chris Wondolowski scored 20 seconds after halftime as the Quakes opened with a 1-0 home win over Colorado. His 110th career MLS goal was a flick header from 12 yards in front of the goal off a perfectly placed delivery by Alberto Quintero, the Panamanian midfielder who joined San Jose in late July. … The Quakes had several lineup questions this week, including whether midfielder Fatai Alashe will play. Alashe left the U.S. national team camp in January for hernia surgery. At left back, it appears rookie Kip Colvey will get the start after relieving the injured Shaun Francis at halftime last week. Colorado was the more consistently dangerous team in the opener, but Quakes goalkeeper David Bingham — who recently made his first appearance for the United States national team — turned in a strong performance by cutting off several dangerous crosses and making five saves including two late-game stops.
